Image
Google quietly updated its documented Google ranking systems page and completely removed several page experience-related ranking systems from the page. What Google removed. The page experience system, the mobile-friendly system, page speed system and the secure site system are all gone. These removals make me wonder if any of these algorithm updates mattered at all to the overall Google ranking system? What changed. Comparing the live page to the archived page reveals the following changes: Google has completely removed the page experience system from the page. It was not moved to the "retired" systems section. It was removed entirely: Google removed the mobile-friendly, page speed and secure site systems from the retired section of the page. This is what it looked like earlier: This is what it looks like now: Why the change. Just a couple of days ago, Google revised the helpful content...

Link juice: Is it the new snake oil of Google SEO? - Search Engine Land

Image
Google's Search Advocate John Mueller – in a rare case of annoyance – said that any SEO advice mentioning "link juice" is not to be trusted. Is it or not? I wondered about the context and doubted whether it was true. There are different opinions.  After Barry Schwartz shared the news on LinkedIn, a lively debate ensued. Even Moz and SparkToro founder Rand Fishkin chimed in on the comments saying, "Maybe link juice is real after all. Maybe y'all should write more about it!" On link juice and bad SEO advice When he dismissed link juice, Mueller was answering a question about outgoing links. He essentially ignored the original question and solely responded to the undesirable "link juice" mention.  While Mueller is usually neutral in his tone this time he came close to a rant on Twitter:  "Anything that talks about 'link juice' should be ignored." Thi...

How to write title tags for SEO with ChatGPT - Search Engine Land

Image
ChatGPT can be helpful for many SEO-related functions, including but not limited to local SEO, keyword research and SEO-focused content creation. Title tags are another area the platform can help you with. Even if Google doesn't always use them, title tags are still a critical on-page SEO element. Even Google's John Mueller acknowledged that ChatGPT could be helpful for creating page titles. This article examines how ChatGPT and the ChatGPT API can help you create compelling, clickable title tags. Before we dive in, keep the following caveats in mind: The quality of your prompts will largely determine the quality of your responses. ChatGPT is not an SEO tool, so it's not explicitly designed to create SEO-friendly title tags. You must always review and QA the tool's output (it can often be wrong!). The platform has a rough sense of text output and characters but doesn't necessarily observe them preci...

Here's where to find your actual free credit reports. Don't Google. - The Washington Post

Image
This article is a preview of The Tech Friend newsletter. Sign up here to get it in your inbox every Tuesday and Friday. I Googled "free credit report." It led me into a financial nightmare. Don't make the same mistake. The U.S. government requires each of the three major credit rating companies — Equifax, Experian and TransUnion — to give you a free copy of your credit report at least once a year. In a change made due to the pandemic, you are entitled to free weekly online credit reports until the end of 2023. There's a government-authorized website, AnnualCreditReport.com, where you can see those files from the three credit companies. But you can't count on Google to point you in the right direction. If you search "free credit report" or similar terms, what you'll probably see first are links to websites that pay Google to siphon your time, your personal information and possibly your money. Essentially, Google's advertising steers you away from...
